Malavikagnimitram
Malavikagnimitra
Malavikagnimitram, generally regarded as Kalidasa's earliest surviving play, stages a palace intrigue in which the historical Shunga king Agnimitra falls for an exiled dancer, using court comedy conventions rather than the mythic register of Kalidasa's later work. Kalidasa's own base at Ujjain is a traditional association with the Gupta court, not independently confirmed.
